The Festival
Committee has planned dozens of events we hope you will find
informative, interesting, and fun. Although birding is the heart
of the program, many activities based on the natural history, ecology,
and ethnology of this area offer much to appeal to experienced and
novice birders alike.
Field Trips and Workshops -
Many local and California birding experts will lead workshops
and
field trips. The Winter Bird Festival 2006 will offer dozens of
field trips, including pelagic ocean trips, kayaking and boating
on Morro Bay and trips to Montana de Oro State Park, Elfin Forest,
and the Carrizo Plains. Workshop topics will include Gull ID,
Bird
Banding, Beginning Birding, Bird Photography, Sparrow ID, Condors/Raptors
and Peregrine Falcon. Land travel will be by car pool and mini-bus.
The cost of the workshops and field trips range from free to
$55.
Central Coast Natural History Association Programs
Your registration includes unlimited entry to the Morro
Bay State Park Museum of Natural History and free participation
in the CCNHA-sponsored field trips covering birding, Monarch butterflies,
elephant seals, tidepools and much more. During the Bird Festival,
more than 40 of the Museum of Natural History's fine bird mounts
will be displayed, and nature-related videos will be shown on request.
Vendors and Exhibits Local and out-of-state vendors
will exhibit optical equipment, books, birdhouses, software and
other items of interest to birders at the Morro Bay Community Center
from Friday through Sunday evening, January 16-19. Local environmental
groups will host information booths. Nature-related art and photography
will also be exhibited for sale, highlighting plants, animals and
landscapes reflecting the natural beauty of the area.
